He began his professional career in London in 1975 as a management accounting trainee with an international conglomerate. After obtaining some experience in an accounting practice, Paul Kennedy spent several years as the chief accountant of a solicitor’s practice. Next he became the financial controller of a software company, before establishing himself as an independent consultant.

In 1998, he relocated to Kuwait as a senior management consultant with the premier regional bank. After the Iraqi invasion of that country in 1990 he became a member of the resistance. Paul Kennedy was given an award by the US Government for help given to the US Embassy in Kuwait and the local American Community during the Iraqi occupation.

He returned to Kuwait after liberation and in 1991 became the managing partner of a trading company. Two years later he became an independent consultant, writer and lecturer. He wrote several books on Kuwait and from 1997 until 2000 was involved in publishing ventures. Since then he has been working as a business consultant in the Gulf and in Ireland.
